The box office champion for 2021 was "Spider-Man: No Way Home." In this podcast episode, HCC film professors Marie Westhaver and Mike Giuliano discuss why so many people have been drawn to this latest installment. The revelation of Peter Parker's secret identity is a strong narrative point of departure, and Tom Holland gives an engaging performance as Peter Parker and as the guy in the red outfit who flies all over town. Although Marie and Mike really enjoyed this movie, they also agree that the 150-minute running time is excessive. They also discuss a much smaller film, "C'mon, C'mon," about a radio journalist (Joaquin Phoenix) whose sister (Gaby Hoffmann) asks him to look after her nine-year-old son (Woody Norman). This character study is extremely well acted, but Marie and Mike had reservations about writer-director Mike Mills' script and its thematic heaviness.
